"In October, 2004, I went to this dealership to look at bikes and buy a
shirt. The saleslady and her sales manager were very helpful and they had
me test drive a new 1200 Custom Sportster. I loved the bike, but could
not swing the financing so they made me a great deal on a new 883. I
still have the bike and would drive the four hours to purchase another
bike from them." - DH 02/06 |

"Stopped in at Surdykes looking to rent a Road King for a weekend before I
purchasing one. They asked why I would wait to purchase, and I said that I
would like to have the down-payment in hand before buying. They said that
they were offering financing with zero down. I said that if they could get
me on the bike I wanted for $350/month with no down, that I would buy
then. They ran my credit and said that it was no problems. They also said
that they had a Road King in the color I wanted at their other store, and
asked for a $500 deposit to bring it down. I paid the deposit, and they
said that the bike would be there first thing the following morning. The
next day, the wife dropped me off an hour after they opened, I figured
that I would be riding out. There was no sight of the bike. I wound up
waiting till almost 3 pm before the bike finally arrived. It then took
almost another hour to get in to signing the papers. Then the other shoe
dropped. Even after telling the salesman AND the sales manager a couple of
times each, that I would not accept a payment even one penny over $350 a
month, the finance lady presented me with papers with a monthly payment of
$420. I politely declined. It took almost an hour and a half talking to
FOUR different people to get them to credit my card back with the
deposits, the whole time while listening to their explanations on why that
was the lowest payment I could get. During these conversations, they kept
trying to get me to agree to all kinds of shady ways to try to make the
sale. Even after my wife came back to fetch me, the sales manager STILL
persisted in trying to get me to buy the bike, insofar as trailing me and
my wife out to her car. It sure seemed to me that they had this routine
down to a science." - TS 08/06
"I attempted to arrange the purchase of a Softtail Classic as a belated
Christmas present for my husband. All he had to do was pick out the color.
Surdykes was the closest dealership and even after hearing negative
comments, I gave them a shot at the sale anyway. They quoted a price and
guarantied that no other dealership could beat their price or they'd give
us $500.00 in merchandise. They even advertise this deal on the local
radio stations. Needless to say they tried the high pressure sales pitch
of Buy it Now or Pay more Later. A phone call to Doc's H-D in St. Louis
saved us $2800 on the same exact bike. Due to the paint scheme it had
to be ordered. After signing the papers, we stopped by Surdyke's and
actually showed them the deal on paper. They flat out refused to honor
their own advertising and made some smart comment that we were trying to
scam them. We now ride 45 miles further and right past Surdykes to Doc's
H-D for service/merchandise where we're treated like our business is
appreciated and valued as a customer." - LK 10/06
"I bought a 06 Electra Glide with cash money. Got a MSRP deal because I
did my homework and informed them I could buy at MSRP in Topeka. Only
then, did the tune change. Got hustled in and out...sent me down the road
without a key. Dealer assembly was poor. Traded in 06, bought 07, same
model. assembly good. gonna get 08. Will give this dealer chance, but will
call Kirkwood. Had buddy buy 07,same model, he got stuck...didn't do his
homework!" - DB 01/07 |

"Two weeks after the new 2007 models had arrived Gail's H-D were quoting
thousands over MSRP, claiming they were charging a premium because of the
high demand for the new model (96" engine and 6-speed). A dealer 20 miles
away in Olathe, KS quoted MSRP plus freight and setup and had bikes on the
floor with no wait, or you could put your name on one coming soon if you
wanted a specific color or configuration. If you look up "stealer" in the
dictionary, you will find Gail's H-D. They do have a good HOG chapter (if
you can block out the Gail's hype during the meetings) and free food in
the parking lot every Saturday, plus a lot of parking lot parties. No
discount on parts or accessories for HOG members though, just some bogus
points system where you have to spend something like $1000 to get $10 off
a future purchase, only if you have your points card and membership card
with you when you make a purchase. They like to say how much they love
their customers, but they don't show it with their price gouging." - SM

"After a bad experience with another local dealer, I
could not be happier with the experience at Doc's. I looked in there a few
years ago, and I thought they were a clothing store that sold a few
motorcycles. They have done a total 180 on that, and had plenty of new bike
in stock, ready to go. I shopped each and every dealer in the St. Louis
area, and Doc's came within $200 of the best deal I could make. Their
attitude and friendliness more than made up for that $200. I will not buy
anywhere else." - TS 08/06 "While I did not buy my bike at Doc's, I
have never visited a dealership that made you feel more welcome or more like
family. Their parts and service departments along with the clothing area are
well-stocked and manned by a excellent staff. I would like to thank them all
for the time they have spent with my wife and I while we shopped." - TG
12/06 "The ABS light on my '08 started glowing all the time. Took it into
Doc's Friday, and even though they had 35 bikes lined up getting service
before heading out to Sturgis, they took mine. Spent several hours on it,
said it needed a $450 module, covered of course. Yesterday morning they
called to say HD told them to try one more thing before they'd send out the
module, so I rode it back there, left it for 6 hours, and they fixed it.
Broken wire, they said. So, I'm glad they took the time to actually fix it
in time for MISFIT. Guess this is one of those good news stories. I'm glad I
bought my bike from Doc's, and I can't say enough about the extra mile they
went to get me road-worthy in time for my 1,300-mile trip." - LW 07/08 |

"bought a new 2006 XL 1200R from these folks in Nov 05. Myself and family
have been treated like family. We have been invited to "new owner only"
sales and and seminars, appreciation dinners, and numerous other events. We
are always greeted with a handshake or a pat on the back when we walk
through the door. Owners truly care about the customer. Great people." - RS

"I bought my '05 Heritage from Bob Schultz and took it in for warranty
work and was denied service because another dealer had done my 5000 mile
service. I told the service manager that the other dealer could get me in
much quicker than him, and it shouldn't matter anyway. I had spent over
$40,000 in three years there. He told me to "Get the f_ _ _ _ out of my
shop". There is a lot more to this story. I received a letter
from their attorney threatening me with "further action" if I do not
remove my post." - DH 10/06 "I have purchased two Harleys within
the last ten months and on both occasions left there feeling belittled by
people that truly don't know what they are talking about. I have also
contacted HD in WI complaining about the representation this dealership is
projecting but I guess HD doesn't care either. I am devoted to HD but I am
losing faith in the bar and shield that wont step in and take back their
name. If I had the money I would love to own it change the name and give
it a new location." - JS 05/07 "We purchased a used FXD there and
went back in to look at trading. We found the bike we wanted, got a
reasonable offer on our trade BUT when we said yes, they told us we could
not purchase the NEW bike at the LISTED SALE price because we were trading
in. NO where was a posted notice about cash only for the sale price. I
called the better business bureau and SCHULTZ is listed as unsatisfactory
in every category and is a non-recommended business." - CT 07/07 "I
just bought a 2007 that has 600 mi on it. It had some oil on top of the
trans so I dropped it off at Bob Schultz. One week later I was told there
was to much fluid in the trans and it was blowing it out the overflow cost
me $130 out of pocket. I told him when I checked the oil about 4 days
after picking the bike up the oil was over filled about 1 inch above the
fill mark. No big deal. I drained it to the correct level. So I asked him
"couldnt it be possible that they over filled the trans." He said that was
my problem, not his." - DR 07/07 |

"Upon returning to the States from Germany I had some
problems with my '02 Softy. I was home on leave in NW MO. I took the bike
to ST. Joe H-D. They not only fixed my problems, but replaced a mirror
(free of charge) the shippers had broken. While in Iraq I had the bike
trailered up and they fixed some other problems that had developed just
before I shipped out. I would recommend ANYONE take their scooter to these
fine people. They run a GREAT shop." - JD 03/06 |

"I went to Gateway to have a rear tire put on that took 2.5 hrs. I paid for
the tire and went out to leave and started the bike and it had a exhaust
leak on the right side. I went back in and he came out with a ratchet and
socket to tighten the bolts and that did not work, then he took it back in
the shop for another 45 minutes and gave it back and said the manifold was
cracked they would order one and call me its been 6 days have not heard
anything. The thing is, they did not say sorry and was going to let me take
the bike and not say anything." - JR 10/06
"Went to trade our 2004 Road King for an 2007 Ultra. I went 3 different
places to get quotes because they advertised they will not be undersold.
Besides HOG chapter members get special treatment, so they say. The salesman
and sale manager wouldn't budge on the sticker because they kept insisting
that items I didn't want were included in the price such as an extended
warranty that you don't have to by until the factory warr. is almost over. I
went to DOC's, got the price I wanted. The sales manager found out, and sent
a messenger boy to me asking me to come back, they would deal. Nope, I saved
over $2500 at Doc's, and quit the Gateway HOG chapter. Seems only certain
people get special treatment. Apparently, at least 8 others besides myself
have bought from Doc's and couldn't be happier." - RD 04/07
"Gateway HD is the number one shop in St. Louis and the surrounding area.
My friends and I have never been treated better by any dealership. You'll
want to be sure to give Gateway the final chance for any purchase. Not only
will they beat it, they truly appreciate the business, and care about
keeping us coming back." - JM 07/08 |
