PETERSEN H-D

"They have no certified HD mechanic on duty. he quit & started his own shop. I am from SD & they wanted to much over MSRP for their bikes so I went to Midway HD in Mandan ND." - JT 6/01

"On or about the 30th of June this year.   I had a failure of the drive belt on my 01 Road Glide in Miller S.D.   We called Peterson H-D after hours and explained the problem to the answering machine.   The owner/operator of the "Dew Drop Inn" in Miller hauled the bike 70+ miles into Pierre SD the following morning.   This dealer was waiting for us in front of Peterson H-D, helped unload the bike, and I noticed the parts required were on the counter waiting for our arrival.   The owner directed us to breakfast a few blocks away, and about one hour after our return the bike was on a road test.    They waved us on our way to continue our 8,700 mile round trip of the West coast and back. Pleasant, excellent, and effective service like this needs to be rewarded." - RH 8/01

BLACK HILLS H-D
Rapid City, SD

"Sell way above MSRP (wife had to have a new 883 right now, paid $8,200 sale price after the big discount), only game in town so salesmen, while attentive, handle the deal as an assembly line routine. Refused to install accessories we wanted that day, said we would have to make an appointment and come back in a week or two.  Not much new inventory on hand, a few overpriced trade-ins on the floor. Real helpful and knowledgeable parts department counter people, with pretty good inventory on hand." - LC 8/01

"Nothing but praise for the service dept. Aug. 24, '02 my SO's 1991 FXRT lunched the drive pulley. The service man said he had no one to tow it ~50 miles. He recommended a towing service (first rate!) who took it the campground. Black Hills had a man with a trailer there first thing Mon. They did the pulley upgrade and transmission 5th gear. Bike was done Tue. afternoon (even washed) and a very fair price. Saved our vacation!" - MH 09/02

"While on a cross-country trip, I arrived at Black Hills H-D at 4:04pm on August 13, 2003; a few days after the Black Hills Rally had ended. I asked at the Service Dept. if they could do an oil and filter change, and they answered that they could. In approximately one hour, they changed the oil and filter, checked the primary chain and fluid level, and lubricated the clutch cable, all for just over $50.00. The Service Writer, Service Manager and another employee were extremely helpful and got me back on the road quickly. While I was there, another customer told me that he had been there for stator and regulator replacement, and they had done the work in just under two hours for a reasonable price. I cannot speak about Black Hills H-D's sales policies or prices, but I certainly appreciate the most excellent way that the Service Dept. helped send me on my way promptly. Note: there is no Service Department at Sturgis H-D; there's a sign on the wall referring service customers to Black Hills H-D, down I-90 about 25 miles." - DS 11/03

"Rally week, 2003, Saturday, the day prior to the official start of the rally. Took my Heritage in for new front Metzler. Price of the tire was fine, but got gouged for $89.00 / hour labor. To top it off, I got gigged for 1.5 hours. 1 hour for the tire change, then an additional 1/2 hour to take my chrome rotor cover off and put it back on again. Then, when I get on I-90, darn thing rubbed the rotor. Had to stop and do it right - myself. Paid it w/ VISA, then disputed it as their rates go back down 3 weeks after the rally. Labor rates weren't posted at intake, only at pick up. Shop "manager" refused to do anything about it. Be a cold day in hell before I stop there again." - MB 05/04

J & L H-D
Sioux Falls, SD

"Superstore HA!! I walked around for nearly 45 min with out a welcome to J&L H-D. The service dept is nice but mechanics were all grumpy. They were asking $12,000 for a used 88 XL883.The parts and apparel counters had a lot to offer at escalated prices. I would not suggest nor spend a dime at this stealer...I will take my business some where else!" - SM 3/01

"Unfriendly staff and it takes 3 to 4 years to get a new bike. Big store but parts and clothing where overpriced. There used where very overpriced." - GH 8/01

"Computer acting up on 02 Road King Classic while heading for west coast, 200 miles into trip. Service dept. was excellent, scanned computer it had a glitch they cleared, no charge, no hassle and a handshake with a wish for a safe trip. All in fewer than 30 minutes 12 days before Sturgis Rally and their shop was busy. Impressed me that they would help a total stranger so courteously so fast." - GT 08/02
