"I have purchased 2 Harleys
from Yellowstone H-D. They used to be called JD's Harley- Davidson.
They have always been fair to me. I currently live 400 miles from the
store , and still often go back for service, I know many others that do
the same. accessories were installed on both bikes at time of purchase for
a minimum labor charge for time- even though some of the accessories were
bought someplace else. they are a friendly group, always willing to just
talk with you. I have stopped in on various trips and was always able to
get routine service done, they always worked me in. I've been in the store
when a cross country traveler has stopped by and had a problem solved for
them right away. I recently had the opportunity to recommend a friend give
them a call when he was looking for a bike, he had tried a local
dealer in Spokane, WA and after he talked to Yellowstone H-D he bought a
bike there- told me he saved close to a $1000. they do have a $500 deposit
when a bike is ordered. they have a good shop, good people working there,
and I have no problem in recommending this dealer." - DS 11/99
" I had trouble with the routing of throttle cable since my
Springer was new. The original cable had been kinked Missoula tried
straightening it without success, so they replaced it. It became
apparent on the way back from Sturgis this year that it wasn't the correct
cable. We stopped early and spent the night at Belgrade to have see
if they could replace it. My bike was still under warranty. At first they
said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I pointed out how
short the cable was, they were interested in replacing the cable until
they realized that my scooter was under warranty. Then they did not
want to have anything to do with it. From the owners mouth, "it
sounds like a problem for Missoula, not us". I asked him if
would not warranty another Harley not bought at his shop, before he would
answer he tried looking up the cable to see if he had it in stock.
He did not, so the rest of the argument was over too. And yes I do
wonder if he had the part in stock but, said he didn't just to dodge me..
never know. Still I thought it was pretty incredible that he would
even suggest that he would not warranty a bike was not sold through his
shop." - Q 1/00
"During Sturgis '99, my mate and I rode to Montana from Virginia.
We stopped in Belgrade and had the local dealership do an oil change.
The dealership was quite busy but worked us into the lineup, changed the
oil and then we proceeded on our way to Glacier National Park. By the time
we reached Glacier, I noticed I was losing oil but could not yet tell from
where. A quick cleanup of the bike the next morning (99 Heritage
Softail) showed that the oil was leaking from the filter. Assuming
it to be a faulty filter, I determined to keep an eye on it and we would
head to the nearest dealership when we left Glacier. The nearest
dealership was in Great Falls, MT - some 150 miles away. In 150
miles, I went through 6-8 quarts of oil, my oil pressure dropped to zero
and my oil temp gauge was reading 260+ degrees. Both the bike and
myself were covered in oil and were enveloped in white smoke. As I
pulled into the Great Falls dealership, where my bike spewed the last of
her oil onto their parking lot. They let her cool down enough to
handle, removed the oil filter and the stud it screws onto came with it.
I had also blown a head gasket, most likely due to heat. They did
the repairs (stand up guys - kudos to them) and said that it was their
educated guess that the oil filter had been over-tightened causing the
gasket to break (thanks to whoever changed the oil in Billings). I
used Richmond Harley Davidson on my return to Virginia and was told that
the lifter noise and valve tapping I was hearing was due to my windshield
rattling. I had it in the Richmond HD shop at least 3 times (once to
install a cam) after that incident with complaints of engine noise and
overheating. I finally took it to a local independent repair shop
that ended up rebuilding the top end last summer because of the scored
cylinder walls ($1200.00). She is back in the shop because I am
still having overheating problems and I am expecting at least another
grand to go into her. All stemming from an oil change in Belgrade
HD. She's only 2 and a half years old! BTW, I did call Harley
Corporate who's stance was the bike was out of warranty by the time we
discovered the damage and it wasn't their problem, regardless of the fact
that one of their certified dealers was the cause." -DJ 5/01
"I have had good experiences with the folks at Yellowstone H-D.
The owner supports our local club, and helps organize tours. I
bought a new Hugger from them in 2001. The service is great.
Sometimes they sell parts 10-20% off retail price." - WM 7/01
"Yellowstone HD at Belgrade MT, has the benefit of a new service
manager, Dan. He has been the go to guy here in Lewiston, ID for many
years. He has run his own independent shop here, where he has earned a
great reputation. Not only a fine wrench with reasonable prices but, he's
more than happy to talk you through projects if your inclined to do some
of your own wrenching. In the era of high prices and low service he is
the exception to the norm. So to everyone using Yellowstone HD, our loss
is your gain. Recently, at the yearly toy run, nearly everyone I ran into
mentioned how much we are going to miss him. Latus HD in Spokane is
talking about putting a dealership here in Lewison, most of us here would
rather have Dan back." - GQ 12/01
"We stopped by on the way back to Washington from Minnesota and the parts
counter-person I asked for help was rather snooty. We felt she snubbed us
because we were not riding a newer Harley and were on an Evolution. We
both felt very out of place and uncomfortable at this dealership and will
not stop in again." - GG 10/03 "This dealership sells at or near
MSRP I have also had work done to my bike at this dealership and the
service people were nothing but friendly and took the time to explain what
was going to be done on the bike." - SG 01/04 "I've bought 2 bikes
from YHD over the past 3 years. Sticker prices are slightly above MSRP,
but they can be talked down to MSRP. They're not likely to throw in
extras. Prices seem to have dropped closer to MSRP over the past couple
of years. Very friendly and professional staff. Excellent long-time
owner who has built the business up. Service manager, mechs, parts folks,
have all been there as long as I've visited this business and there
doesn't appear to have been much turnover (which I think is good). The
service manager, who does a lot of wrenching himself, has a lifetime of
experience wrenching - he's good. I think they're all knowledgeable and
experienced and I trust them. My only criticism is that I think their
shop rates and service prices are higher than other dealers in MT. They
can also get very busy in the time period surrounding Sturgis because
they're right on I-90 and get the Rally traffic coming and going; so, it
can be difficult to schedule maintenance in the middle of the summer.
During the last few riding seasons they've stayed open 7 days a week, 8:00
to 7:00." - BR 03/04 |

"Stopped in to get part for our Evolution and were
greeted with smiles and lots of help. Rick and the guys took time out of
their busy day and made us feel right at home. The attitude here was the
best we had seen in our summer trip across five western states. Thanks a
lot. We highly recommend stopping and saying howdy any time you get within a
hundred miles of Butte. Definitly the best part of Butte." - GG 10/03 "A friend and I were returning slowly and leisurely from a
1000 mile Saddle-Sore ride, and a foot peg broke off his Honda. Knowing
that most Honda dealers don't carry a lot of aftermarket parts for cruisers,
we stopped at Thunderbolt in Butte hoping not to get beat up. What we found
was a group of guys (during the first days of Sturgis in 06, I might add)
who took time to bring his Honda back into the shop, re-tap the metric
receivers to handle English bolts, and set us up with a standard set of
Harley foot pegs. The extra work cost nothing. These guys are worth going
to for anything you need!" - MF 09/05 |

"This Dealership is First Class all the way! The sales and
service staff are extremely pleasant, knowledgeable, and accommodating.
They really added the personal touch when they sold me a 2000 Convertible.
I would recommend this dealership to everyone!" - CE 10/99
"Missoula, about 1350 over MSRP, that price included the 500 &
5000 mile service (99 pearl Springer). Require a 10% deposit on
order. Upside, they have warranted my primary case and changed it 3
times for defects. Downside, another simple problem the routing the
throttle cable took 4 visits to get right. My second bike I've
bought there, very friendly and make you feel at home kind of
people." - Q 1/00
"This is one HD dealership you should avoid. Bought a new BUELL from them
and it was a complete piece of junk. After 2 weeks in the shop I
realized it was a poor shop and they couldn't screw in a light bulb. After
taking it to a real dealer the problem was solved. Since this little
yellow Buell had a guaranteed trade value , I thought that they would be
fair on the price of a new HD. It only took 30 seconds for the great super
salesman to tell me 12500 for a 1200 Sportster. That's only 3000
over MSRP for a hard to find Sportster. What a deal from the poorest
excuse for a HD dealer in Montana. Avoid this stealer and don't pay
3000 over for a Sportster or anything else they might sell." - TS 03/02
"A few weeks back the wife and I bought 2 custom Sportsters from them;
hers an 883 and mine a 1200. The price was right in the MSRP ballpark and
was still able to talk them into taking $1025 off the 2 bikes. Grand
total around $18,500 for both w/ none of the "I'll take 500 off if you buy
it today" BS. The 883 was having some slight carb problems but they took
care of it quickly. Everyone in there was very friendly, courteous and
helpful toward a couple newbie riders. It was refreshing! I don't know
anything about the Missoula store, but when I'm ready to buy a couple
more. You can bet I'll be giving my money to the Kalispell MTHD shop!" -
